Based in Fort William The Highland Mountain Company offers and delivers bespoke instruction, coaching and guiding in the Scottish Highlands for individuals, groups and families.

Our aims: are to deliver a professional and complete service that gives you confidence and reassurance in our ability both on and off the hill.  We aim to provide more than just a guide who gets you safely from A to B, for us that is the absolute minimum requirement.

Our goals: are to give you an enjoyable but memorable experience which is both safe and exciting.  With your guidance we tailor our service to fulfil your specific requirements and desires, ranging from a short exciting abseil to a multi day walking trip.  We strive to share our knowledge and understanding of the outdoor environment so that your future excursions benefit from our experience.

Our instructors: are highly experienced and technically qualified in the mountain environment, with years of additional experience coaching people through challenging situations on personal development courses in the outdoors.  They are always keen to impart their knowledge, whether it’s about the flora and fauna, geography, geology, the ever changing landscape or the best place to eat and drink, camp or where to have your next hill day.

David enjoying the Scottish winter

The courses are organised and delivered by David Buckett.  Growing up in Kent and gaining a BSc Hons degree in Geography from the University of Portsmouth, the decision was quickly made by David to head from the flat lands of the south to the mountains of Scotland.  Starting as an instructor at Raasay Outdoor centre for one year he then went on to instruct in personal development courses at The Outward Bound Trust in Fort William.  For the last 7 years this has involved facilitating young people in realising that they can achieve more than they know.

In David’s free time he is never far from a mountain or crag and he has visited many places over the last 11 years in search of adventure, knowledge and interest.  Including in the UK: Skye, Raasay, Torridon, Snowdonia, The Lake District, Peak District, Gower and Portland.  Overseas the travels started in Swaziland, Mozambique, South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi and Mt Meru and Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.  Then later onto the Indonesian rainforest, Bali, trekking in Ladakh, bouldering and climbing at Fontainebleau and the French Alps and sport climbing in El Chorro, southern Spain.
