With winds predicted to hit 100mph on the summits through the morning and heavy rain in the afternoon the decision was made with Scott to not try to battle with the weather too much and stay low. We dove back to Glen Coe to tackle the Zig Zags a grade 1 scramble in summer and winter and great to teach mountaineering techniques on.
We focused upon good technique for soloing over easier ground and how to spot people but also thinking of consequences, experience and conditions under foot. Moving up to the trickier sections of the scramble we got the rope out and practiced quick short pitches with appropriate belaying methods from above and below.
With the weather closing in we then reversed the route looking how to descend rocky ground by controlled down climbing with a rope, abseiling and soloing.
A great day out in a rubbish forecast but in a sheltered location from the worst of it.
