After a blast of Christmas in the midlands, an 8.5 hour drive back yesterday, I found myself with James and Simon walking up to the first summit of Am Bodach. With the clouds clearing and the sun hitting the top of the ridge with powder snow on the ground, it felt good to be burning off that extra helping of Christmas pudding, or 2.
With a very short abseil down the first section we made our way along the ridge, scrambling over the snow and sections of ice, with the ridge being in perfect condition. With tricky down climbing in sections we made good progress to the ‘pinnacle’ section where the main technical parts of the ridge need to be negotiated. With great views all around, north to Ben Nevis and the Mamores and south to Stob coire nan Lochan we made our way carefully along. In no time at all we had reached the summit of Sgorr nam Fiannaidh the munro that indicates the end (or start) of the ridge. And with Glen Coe village still in a frosty, icy shadow we made our way down in about 6.5 hours in total.
A great day out. For more photos please visit my Facebook Page.
