Today I was out on Ben Nevis with Julie and Peter for The Lake District Walker and their winter skills weekend. In windy conditions we walked up the north face path to the CIC hut.
From there we walked towards the Douglas boulder looking at how to use an axe and how to walk over different terrain using different techniques. After we walked round to the base of North East Buttress to dig a Hasty pit to look at the different snow layers and what that represented in terms of the avalanche risk.
Finally we made our way to the other side of the corrie and practiced ice axe arrests in various positions in a blizzard. A good day all round and good progress made by Peter and Julie.
