1st Avalanche report of the season

Today is officially the first day of winter, according to SAIS (Scottish Avalanche Information Service) even though it might not feel it out side (13 degrees today in Fort William).

But its good to start getting back into the habit of checking the forecast and then matching it up against the weather forecast, MWIS, Met office, and then after assessing the information making your plans for your day out.

It is always worth checking the forecasts leading up to your planned day out so you can get a picture (on paper anyway) of what the conditions are doing and what they have been doing.

There is also an explanation of what the snow profiles mean on the SAIS as well, so get reading and making plans: A, B and C.
