Today was a family day up the tourist path for Lochaber Guides. With the forecast dry and light winds we set off from the Ben Nevis Inn. The two families made steady progress up the first leg to half way lochan making the Red Burn in 2 hours. With the cloud high we got great views most of the way up. Stewart had the idea of climbing the 3 peaks but over a week with his family for his 50th birthday and said it was his ‘bucket list’, so who better to guide them on the first peak!
At about 11oom the snow cover was uniform but very soft and slushy. In the cloud we made our way over the final steepening’s, round the top of Gardyloo gully and the summit. 5 hours in all and a lot of effort put in, especially 12-year-old Michael with his very cool Yoda hat.
With tired legs we made our way back down and made it back at the car in a total of 9 hours. A good steady day with almost perfect weather and I wish them well for the next 2 peaks.
