Today I was out for Maximum Adventure with Andy and Glen on a winter skills weekend. With the weekend being 2 halves with the weather, the decision was made to head up the Ben today with the view of getting to the summit and then on the way look at basic skills.
On the way up, with the sun shining, we looked at secure and efficient footwork and discussed the issues about the areas of windslab that we came across. Nearer the top the wind picked up and there was a small crust on top of the snow with a few patches of ice. At a lightning pace we were at the top and saw a busy Tower ridge.
On the way down we looked at walking with crampons and then in the Red Burn I introduced the basics of ice axe arrests. A good day with good weather and a lot covered.
